Afternoon Tea and High Tea at The Waiting Room

Neil Perry presents his interpretations of both with high tea every bit as much a treat as afternoon tea.

Melbourne's most sophisticated hotel lobby bar, The Waiting Room now presents a superb Afternoon Tea and High Tea service by Neil Perry.

A quintessentially British tradition since the 1800s, afternoon tea was created as a mid-afternoon meal to satisfy hunger created between early lunch and late dinner.

In the evenings, high tea was traditionally served on a high table or kitchen table. It was first thought of as a working class meal, that usually had more substantial meats on it than afternoon tea.

Here at The Waiting Room, Neil presents his interpretations of both with high tea every bit as much a treat as afternoon tea.

Served on a three-tiered silver stand, the tea services include a delectable selection of assorted sandwiches, savouries and sweet things, served with Jing Tea and Vittoria Coffee.

Neil Perry says: "Afternoon Tea and High Tea have always been a part of the master plan for The Waiting Room and we are excited to present a selection of my favourite finger sandwiches together with some savoury treats and our finest cakes."

Afternoon tea at The Waiting Room is served daily from 12-5pm and High Tea from 5-9pm.

Cost is $42 per person with tea only and $65 per person with tea and a glass of NV Duval Leroy Brut or Hendrick's Gin Punch.

Bookings are recommended on 03 8679 1800.
