Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’, part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), begins Sunday 24 January 2015.

Melbourne, Australia. Sunday 1 February 2015. The 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship will begin on Wednesday 13 January 2016 in the Crown Poker Room - marking the 18th consecutive year the event has been held at Crown Melbourne, Australia.

The action-packed schedule will include the official gold bracelet events, satellites and cash games, along with daily tournaments running for 20 consecutive days.

The poker festival will reach its prime with Asia-Pacific’s longest-running poker tournament, the coveted $10,600 Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’, part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT), which is slated to run over eight consecutive days from Sunday 24 January - Sunday 31 January 2016.

Due to the large number of entrants the Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’ will feature three starting flights; Sunday 24 January, Monday 25 January and Tuesday 26 January.

“The 18th year of the Aussie Millions will be the biggest and best to date, as effectively one of the top poker majors and a favourite amongst some of the most renowned players in the world, and the stage has never been brighter, and the team are all hard at work to make the 18th event the biggest and best yet,” said Aussie Millions Tournament Director, Joel Williams.

Nearly 100 poker tables will be set up across the award winning complex to accommodate the thousands of players from around the world who attend Asia-Pacific’s largest poker event.

The current slate of individual events offered during the 18th Aussie Millions are being finalized, with 20+ official gold ring events expected and a broad range of other poker variations at both entry level and championship level buy-ins mixed in throughout the Championship series.

The ‘LK Boutique -$250,000 Challenge’ features prominently on the schedule, after Crown hosted the largest buy-in poker tournament ever seen at that time (2011), which saw an astounding 20 players entering the ‘$250,000 Super High Roller Event’, creating a prize-pool of AUD$5,000,000.

Crown Melbourne’s Director of Poker, Jim Preston said today “Crown works tirelessly to assemble the best of the best to play in events such as this Super High Roller event - the ‘LK Boutique - $250,000 Challenge’.”

Players confirmed to attend include Dan Smith, Doug Polk, Erik Seidel, Fabian Quoss, Dani Stern, Mike McDonald, Patrick Antonius, Paul Newey, Phil Ivey, Phillip Gruissem, Richard Yong, Scott Seiver, Sorel Mizzi, Stanley Choi, Tobias Reinkemeier, Tony Bloom, and a number of online pro’s have also expressed an interest.

Crown’s Aussie Millions has rapidly become a high-stakes tournament destination for the elite, with Crown providing the world’s top players with a high-stakes playground, unrivalled anywhere else in the world.

Day 1 will see the players convene in Crown’s Poker Room, where from 2:30pm the action will commence. The ‘LK Boutique - $250,000 Challenge’ will also feature unlimited re-entries while registration is open (until the start of day 2) There are not many players on the planet who would even consider a rebuy in an event of this magnitude but there are some, and they will all be there for this event.

Day 2 will feature the ‘Final Table’ of the event. This will be filmed in Exhibition Hall, the official Aussie Millions Film Studio located in Crown Conference Centre, and if it is anything like the 2014 Final Table, expect nothing but the best.

Since 2003 the Aussie Millions ‘Main Event’ has paid in excess of AUD$17,000,000 in first prizes alone. The entire prize-pool for the 2014 Aussie Millions Poker Championship was a whooping AUD$32 million.
Event 10, the five-day ‘Main Event’ will garner the majority of media coverage. In terms of prize money, the prestigious ‘Main Event’ shares the limelight with some of Victoria’s other major events including the Melbourne Cup, Australian Open, and the AFL Grand Final.

In 2014 the ‘Main Event’ welcomed 668 entrants from across the globe, with defending champion Ami Barer taking home a cool AUD$1,600,000 for his efforts, after fighting through a tough field made up of some of the world’s greatest poker players.

Event 11: $100,000 Challenge, Sunday 25 January 2015 at 2:15pm returns to championship schedule. Being placed before the Main Event, this event is sure to attract some of the biggest names in poker who have trekked across the globe.

The tournament has a rich history, but in 2014 took a whole different level as 39 unique players accounted for 37 re-entires for a total field of 76 entries. That was up considerably from the 22 entries the year before. It took two full days of play, but eventually Yevgeniy Timoshenko defeated Mike "Timex" McDonald to capture the title and AU$2,000,000 first-place prize.
