Now in its eleventh year, the festival has expanded its offering and still attracts over 100,000 visitors per day filling the Crown Riverwalk from Friday 8 February until Sunday 10 February from 11am until 11pm, daily. Admission is free.

Monday 5 November 2012. Melbourne, Australia. At the traditional Crown Victorian Club ‘Call of the Card’ held today at Crown Melbourne, a capacity crowd of 1300 guests witnessed an avalanche of big bets for many of the international horses in Australia’s most famous race.

The visiting French Melbourne Cup reigning champion, Dunaden was backed to win over $1 million including a single bet to win $350,000.

Of the more favoured horses 2012 Caulfield Cup place getter, Lights of Heaven backed to win over $1.6 million, Gai Waterhouse’s Glencadam Gold backed to win over $1 million, local Hawkes family trained galloper Niwot backed to win over $1.25 million and English trained, My Quest for Peace backed to win over $650,000.

The four bookmakers were in a big betting mood and met all the challenges that the punters put to them with over $750,000 wagered in a torrid afternoon of action. So strong were the four bookies that only four horses firmed in the market. These horses are Luca Cumani’s, My Quest for Peace $21 - $20, Lexus Stakes winner Kelinni $26-$21, Lloyd William’s Mourayan $26 - $21 and Glencadem Gold $51 - $41.

The four bookmakers operating at the 2012 Call of the Card were Tom Waterhouse, Steve McHenry (Surebet), Alan Eskander (Betstar) and Greg Engellenger (Winbet).
