This one-of-a-kind evening at Kolkata Cricket Club invites guests to explore the movement of people, memory, and culture - told through the lens of Indian migration and its growing imprint on Australian wine.

The event will spotlight the compelling stories of Indian-born and Indian-heritage individuals who made the bold and unusual decision to enter the wine industry in Australia - an industry historically shaped by European narratives. Through a five-course culinary journey paired with the wines of Avani (Shashi & Rohit Singh, Mornington Peninsula) and Domaine Simha (Nav Singh, Tasmania), this experience opens a space for storytelling, conversation, and cultural resonance.

At its heart, the evening is not about the technicalities of winemaking, it is about why these families and individuals chose to express their Australian identity through wine. What inspired them to work with the land in a country far from ancestral soil or the old continent? How do heritage, migration, and memory shape their perspectives as winegrowers, storytellers, and contributors to Australian food and wine culture?

Guests will hear directly from Shashi, Rohit, and Nav as they reflect on the parallels between spice and soil, history and terroir, and what it means to forge new traditions in a land that is both home and horizon. The discussion will also touch on the future - what lies ahead for young Indian-Australians entering the wine world, and how the Australian cultural diversity can be a bridge in the evolution of the industry.

Curated by sommelier and wine provocateur Liinaa Berry, in collaboration with hatted chef Mischa Tropp, this event brings together two deeply expressive forms; wine and Indian cuisine, in a conversation that honours the personal, the political, and the poetic dimensions of migration.

This is an evening for those who believe that wine is not just about flavour, but about who gets to make it, serve it, and share it, and how stories of movement, identity, and belonging can shape the future of our tables.
